Company opens battery manufacturing plant in Oakland
Richmond-based battery manufacturer Enzinc announced that it’s scaling up and automating the production of its zinc anodes in Oakland, where this week it opened a 10,000-square-foot manufacturing technology center to expand production of fireproof zinc batteries for mobility and stationary energy storage. The opening ceremony was attended by guests, including California Energy Commission Chair David Hochschild. The company’s proprietary technology enables traditional lead-acid battery makers to offer higher-powered nickel-zinc batteries with relatively minor capital-effective upgrades to their existing equipment. The new center was made possible in part by a $1.8 million grant under Epic’s Bringing Rapid Innovation Development to Green Energy award.
